Doris received a BA degree from Hunter College and worked for a time at the New York League for the Hard of Hearing. She later studied at the Art Students League of NY and the Provincetown Workshop. She was a dedicated visual artist throughout her life, with both regional, national, and international exhibitions of her paintings which have been described as “Lyrical abstract works with a unique quality of intimacy.” Doris was an active member of New York Artists Equity Association where she served as vice president from 1992-96. She also served as the Legislation Committee Chair where she represented NYAEA at the annual Arts Advocacy Day in Washington, DC. She was a member of the American Society of Contemporary Artists as well as the Contemporary Artists Guild.
