A poet selected my piece titled Colors Inside One SeaShell to write a poem based on what they said in my piece. I was excited by her words and vision of how she saw my piece. After reading through the poem a few times, I now see the fence along the sand and hear the sound of pale silence.
This Wide Paper
Stains in blue, full bleed, stain made thin
Shapes, irregular, as if spilled
To the edge, the view, and the sky.
Across this paper, this wide-width
Minor marks in black, marks made by hand
Each is the same size, same space between
Fence posts, identical to sand
The fence, irregular as dune
Blue stains repeat along the wall.
The san is pale below the sky
In palest silences, there is sound.
I am here, feet bare in the sand
Here and now — the heartbeat, heartbeat
