When I came across an old advertisement for Camel cigarettes featuring a female sharp shooter aiming a deadly weapon at the viewer, it seemed like a perfect symbol for the dangers of cigarette smoking and it became the focal point of Smoking By Pregnant Women. The title refers to the Surgeon General’s warning concerning the dangers of cigarette smoking to the unborn child. Smoking by Pregnant Women contrasts 50 years of cigarette advertising which focused on the relaxing healthful effects of smoking versus our current awareness of the dangers of cigarette smoking.
