I have been involved with the exploration of circular shapes constructed on a grid format. By eliminating and combining sections of overlapping and concentric circles, I create shapes and spaces that are constantly moving back and forth within the framework of other circles.

The use of the water-based medium has greatly enhanced the possibilities of transparency and opacity. Used in conjunction with complimentary color schemes, I am able to establish strong figure/ground relationships that at times become ambiguous. I relate this ambiguity to the dialogue between the inner and outer consciousness that exists in every individual.

A state agency created by the South Carolina General Assembly in 1967, the SCAC works to increase public participation in the arts through grants, direct programs, staff assistance and partnerships in artist development, arts industry, arts learning, creative placemaking, and folklife and traditional arts. Headquartered in Columbia, S.C., the SCAC is funded by the state of South Carolina, by the federal government through the National Endowment for the Arts, and other sources.
