For around 20 years, my family lived in Charleston. I lived there for 10 of those years, but my photographic skills and exhibition opportunities increased after leaving Charleston. A recent viewing of an Alfred Steilitz photo exhibit in New York was the inspiration for heading back to Charleston to photograph remembered scenes of the “Holy City.” The architecture of Charleston symbolized a time of grace and classical serenity. Times have certainly changed, but the look is still serene.
