The painting Kharis is composed; it is a deliberate balance of textures, light and dark, form and color in different areas of the canvas. This is unusual only in the sense that it contrasts with much of my previous work, which was based mainly on centered, symmetrical, emblematic motifs; simple, bright color contrasts and flat surfaces. It also represents a changing technique being one of the first pictures I have produced using an airbrush and spray gun, although the medium remains acrylic paint. Experiment is essential to my work as is my reliance on geometry, and I would therefore hope that the painting combines the stability of tradition with the element of discovery.
