“The Attack of the Giant Moths is a felted wall piece. It was made by hand by first taking raw wool and dyeing it different colors using an acid dye. Then the picture was arranged in the raw wool and the felting was begun. The wool was exposed to moisture, heat, and pressure over and over again. This caused the different fibers to bind together, making a very strong piece of unwoven cloth. This process is fast and spontaneous for me, unlike the slow and sometimes tedious work that I usually do on my loom. It also gives me a chance to experience a different way of handling the materials that I find refreshing. Normally I must treat the fibers very gently, but in this process I get to be destructive with the materials to get the desired effect.”
