Palimpsest

Historically palimpsest is a manuscript or piece of writing material with layers of superimposed text under which traces of earlier effaced text remain. Palimpsest is a painting about human evolution in flux. Scientific progress and technological advancement offer us a glimpse into previously concealed aspects of our ancestry. The way we define ourselves influences our interactions with others in complex and profound ways. As DNA tests constantly evolve, they challenge our understanding of the past and ourselves. Newly discovered layers of our existence provide us with a better insight into the human story in unprecedented ways. Palimpsest celebrates diversity by including the unexpected, namely crystals in the process of painting.
