The impact of the question “Who Needs Society Anyway?” cannot be overstated. Though a primary color palette will often steal the show, the clear star of this piece is the question. New York Magazine Vol. 52 No. 16 (August 2019) was a riff on the 1975 Daily News headline “Ford to City: Drop Dead”. New York truly squandered the likeness of the infamous article -- their stand-in for Ford? Ivanka Trump. “Ivanka to City: Drop Dead” and “Who Needs NYC Society Anyway?” plastered on every newsstand for all of August 2019. This cover raises many questions -- who are the people with the means to reject so-called high society? What are the consequences when people without influence, power, or money decide to reject society? In August 2020, our society is in a very different place. Who needs it anyway? A primary color palette suggests a return to the basics, to the building blocks, to a new beginning.
