“TRAILBLAZER” is a part of a two part series commissioned from Praxis. It began with a grid, which is long since obscured; remnants of vertical and horizontal lines are barely visible near the edges of the piece. After laying down a basic red grid, I began with a large splatter in the center. The color and the shape set the stage for the sunburst shape which followed. From the center, red, yellow, and orange lines radiate out, casting light all around. For this piece, I gravitated to white as a tool to further evoke the sun. The sun represents growth, radiance, and passion. Praxis is allowing young people to find their own path by setting fire to the norm; to grow, despite the pervasiveness of a system which pressures them to conform. Each line out from the center represents a different, unique journey - paths forged by the “TRAILBLAZER”(s), each leaving a shining ray of sunlight in their wake.
