“LAVISH” is a painting that can be read like a poem. It is also a commentary on the way women are spoken about, and it makes an effort to redefine words which provide commentary on a woman’s appearance or sexuality. The words also juxtapose each other, offering some words with positive connotations, and some with negative. “beauty / abound / refined / flashy / lavish / unruly / savage / vulgar / sleazy” is written in cut and pasted letters down the center of the canvas and attached with silver paint. A background of green, blue, yellow, and gold acrylic recalls a lush rainforest.
