When the monsoon began to finally appeared in the summer of 2021 the atmosphere above Mt. Sopris presented incredible color and form. Due to its size Mount Sopris can actually influence the local weather. Here brilliantly lit clouds illuminate the sky and dwarf the 12,966β dual peaks. I estimated the clouds altitude to be about 25,000β before it dissipated. Typically, turbulence within the cumulonimbus cloud will cause mammatus to form, especially on the underside of the projecting anvil as it rapidly descends towards the ground which they never completely reach. They often signal that a storm is on a weakening trend.
