In this rare panorama you can see four ski mountaineering icons of the Columbia Mountains. Mt. Sir Sanford’s massive south face on the left and, Black Friar, Austerity and Pioneer to the center and right in the image. Sanford, the first of the three, has been skied once and the remainder by just a few. They are rarely in condition and the window of opportunity for a quality and somewhat safe descent may only be a few hours each year on their sunny south faces.
“It was the most difficult and insane ski descent I’ve ever done.” - Troy Jungen after finishing the last 1,000 feet of the descent in the twilight and finally darkness during the first and possibly only descent of the south face of Sir Sanford.
