The diptych, Blue Skies Ahead, reflects hope after the tragic and, at times, terrifying year of 2020. Painting the butterflies brought me joy - they symbolize renewal, change and courage. Blue Skies Ahead is part of my “Jeopardy” series in which I lend my voice to endangered species who cannot speak for themselves as their natural habitats and migration patterns are being disrupted and protections stripped away. “Jeopardy’s” goal includes increasing awareness of the state of our butterflies and bees when we develop the land where the butterflies thrive and use pesticides that are toxic to bees. Our opportunity to change our behavior to sustain their longevity is rapidly disappearing.
