Given in the memory of John J. Cunney, former owner and developer of the land stretching from 81-101 Proctor Street and 50-58 Highland Avenue. The monument is a slightly tapered four-sided column topped by a cement cornice, mound of rubble, and finial.
The memorial adorns the names of neighborhood Salem citizens who served during World War I. It is now located at the corner of Jackson Street and Highland Avenue, as it was rededicated there by the Salem Veterans Council in 2010. The memorial was moved from its original location at the corner of Highland Avenue and Proctor Street that same year.
