Three-quarters-length portrait of the Marquis de Lafayette (1757-1834), in black suit with white collar, standing against a column with elbow propped up. He looks off to the right and holds a scroll in his hand. The Marquis de Lafayette was a guest of the City of Salem on October 29, 1784 and August 31, 1824. This copy was made after a sketch by Samuel B. Morse.
