Dorje/Vajra usually is translated as "thunderbolt." In Hinduism, it is the weapon of Indra just as it is the thunderbolt hurled by Zeus -- the King of the Gods in Greek mythology-- who uses it to show his aggressive power. But in Tibet the vajra (dorje in Tibetan) translates as “diamond” or “adamantine.” It symbolizes the higher- peaceful truth of that still center of purified consciousness from which all dualities spring- the indestructible diamond-like consciousness of Buddhahood. From the collection of the Dalai Lama’s brother 1974. (FLG)
