The magical thing about numbers is that they are very often knowable. And, so too the magical thing about structure and routine is also their knowable-ness. I grew up not particularly fond of any of these phenomena, more comfortable with twists and turns, a mercurial kind of knowing. Now that I've been tasked with raising my selves, I'm finding a kind of soothing in what once seemed monotonous, the repetitive building of each brick that collectively forms a solid foundation. And with each step - unlearning, relearning- we're growing something, someone who will one day thrive, wildly. For now, I ask myself at the end of each day: "Did I grow today?"
