This piece was inspired by a walk near Lulworth in Dorset. There were three gates in my field of vision, all hanging nonchalantly, as if having a conversation with each other. The coast line is stunning there, but I was looking inland, at the lay of the land and man's marks in it. As the pieces progressed, the gates became hidden more and more and I tried to draw them out again later in the process.
Each piece has been started as a drypoint etching- I have then collaged coloured and textured tissue paper into the pieces, as well as hand mono-printed onto them (this is like printed painting- very gestural). Each piece emerges from the process completely unique- albeit with a family resemblance to the others in the series.
