This piece was inspired by a walk in winter on the edge of the Bristol Channel at Portishead. Denny Island sits in the middle of the channel, smaller or larger according to the tide. Salt marshes seep into the estuary at low tide, creating little channels. It's a wonderful spot to watch the weather move over Wales on the other side of the estuary, in this case a snow storm.
Each piece has been started as a drypoint etching- a plate made by scratching into metal or card. This was then printed by hand in my home studio during lockdown. I have then collaged coloured and textured tissue paper into the pieces, as well as hand mono-printed onto them (this is like printed painting- very gestural). Each piece emerges from the process completely unique- albeit with a family resemblance to the others in the series.
