Born in Southend and educated in Middlesex and Cambridge Heather has followed a wandering and satisfying career path but has always spent time with her photography and writing. She began photography with her father at the age of 11 and has never forgotten that first precious magic of an image appearing through the drifting chemicals of the darkroom. Pursuing a dual career in photography and psychotherapy she finds they balance one another well. Working with photographer Philip Clarke she combined these two careers in three major exhibition called ‘The Shadow Self’ exploring reactions to words like Confusion, Reflection and Loneliness. Each exhibition has been accompanied by a book of poems and images. She has travelled extensively with husband Raul Speek and images from this form a major body of work and is the subject of one of her books ‘Travels with my Camera’ which followed her first book ‘Pembrokeshire Promise’.
Heather moved to Pembrokeshire in 1995 and has focused on the beauty of the landscape here and its wildlife particularly its bird life
