Judge Zdeno Mayercak's remarks:
Thank you to the Rockville Art League for the opportunity to be a juror for this exhibition. I am a practicing sculptor and art teacher and what I look for when evaluating works of art is innovative content and high quality of form. When surveying the images of submitted artworks, I was impressed by the quality of the presented works. It took me a considerable amount of time to review all the work and make my initial selection in each category.
Selecting the awards in each category was a formidable task. I did multiple rounds of comparing the quality of content and form of each artwork. Selecting the best works in oil and acrylic painting was exceptionally difficult. I finalized my choices for all awards in person on December 1st.
I would like to encourage all artists who submitted their work to continue creating art. You have unique life experiences that could be expressed in art. Your personal experiences could bring out unique content that communicates a powerful and inventive idea. The skills needed to create works of art will improve with each new work. Keep creating!
