Therese Capal's Remarks:
I would like to thank Rockville Art League for allowing me to judge this beautiful show. I have been truly inspired by the pieces I have had the pleasure of looking at for the past few weeks. All of the artists represented here deserve congratulations for their amazing work.
A technique I use when judging a show is to write about the piece or body of work I am viewing. Writing helps me focus on the details that I think make a work successful. I look at balance, color, theme, mastery of medium... so many details. However, the theme for this show I keep returning to is a little different. It is that of community. This show represents your particular art community, defined by geographic borders, at this particular moment in time. You are neighbors, friends, and acquaintances who all share that internal need to document the world around you, your internal thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. This show first and foremost reflects and celebrates the versatility and talent of this group.
The process of selecting pieces in each category is always extremely challenging. I believe I have chosen work that shows originality, skilled techniques in the artist’s chosen medium and a level of talent that elevates and excites the viewer.
The prizes are marked on the award winning pieces. Best in Show awarded to "My Father's Key" by Karen Norman.
