Limor Dekel x
At age 15, Limor Dekel had to give up one passion for another. She chose the visual arts over dance. Her passions for the performing arts and travel are evident in her work.
She was born and raised in Israel to creative parents, surrounded by art and the inspiring forms of the landscape. She attended the Bat-Dor Academy of Dance for ten years.
After a two-year stint as an officer in the Israeli military, Limor studied ceramics design at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. A romantic adventure persuaded her to move to the US in 1984, where she opened a ceramic art studio in Crofton, MD, and sold her work to designers, galleries, and in numerous regional art and craft shows.
Her ceramics won several awards, and The Baltimore Sun and Crofton Crier wrote feature articles about her art. Limor continued to expand her creative pursuits and enrolled in the University of Maryland to receive a degree in Interior Design. She graduated in 1989 and began working for Marriott Hotels.
Limor also worked as a graphic designer and a freelance artist until, in 1998, she decided to become an art teacher. She enrolled in Towson State University and became a certified art teacher in 2002; she has been teaching art since then.
Limor discovered her love of painting during a class at Towson, and painting remains her current artistic focus. She has been teaching art in high school in Montgomery County, MD. She is a member of Maryland State Education Association, National Art Education Association and Montgomery County Education Association.
Ms. Dekel has worked with the non-profit organization, Youth Art for Healing, mentoring high school art students to have their artwork installed in health-care facilities. Limor has exhibited her paintings at the Yellow Barn Gallery in Glen Echo, Baltimore-Washington International Airport and Towson Art Collective in Maryland. Received an Honorable Mention Award in 2022 Figurative International Juried art Competition in Art Show International Gallery.
