Juried Winter Show 2025

This piece represents the Milky Way in the northern hemisphere according to the Maya tradition. For the ancient Maya the sky above them had a deep, trancendental meaning. The area around the crossing of the Milky Way with the Ecliptic, explained the creation of the universe. The work shows how, from the primordial fire (the Orion nebula), stemms the Tree of LIfe. In addition, other stellar features shown, Gemini, The Pleyades, and the Northern Star, had especial significance. Mayas saw in the dark side of our galaxy the path to the Underworld, whose overlord must be vanquished to preserve life.
