Judge’s Note: I discovered this pastel after walking past it several times. Something made me stop. There is temperature, texture, a beautiful light in it. The artist captured the remnants of a season past. There is a familiar softness to the dried tufts and a beautiful golden light that warms the crisp air. The hand of the artist mimics the dark sharp prickly parts as well as the softness in the wheat stalk tips. This feels like a place one might drive by, staring out of a car window, a fleeting glimpse on a cold day.
