Judge’s notes: The Cezanne like energy of this piece captivated me. I love the deliberate mark making, and the handling of space in this composition. The diagonals and geometric divisions of space juxtapose the flower arrangement. There is a “just do it” sensibility here, no second thoughts. This is what grabbed my attention. I also love the way the background was handled. I sense a very no-nonsense spirit in the hand of the artist, that gives this such freshness.
Artist’s notes: Some good friends in West Virginia retired to a farm and grow flowers, herbs, and veggies. This bouquet was a charming example of their end of the Summer mix.
