Each figure in this clay sculpture was individually thrown and altered before being joined. Through trial and error I learned to provide just enough space between them to prevent them from breaking each other as they dried and shrank. This space allowed them to come to rest in their final embrace. This piece was then fired in a kiln to 1800 degrees. Horse hair and feathers were applied to it while still red-hot, burning designs into the piece. Finally, while still hot, ferric chloride was sprayed on the piece to impart the colors of the sunset.
