Adults rarely can 'truly' grasp the full beauty of 'Tiny Dancers.'
Similar to the fable, 'Peter Pan' in which Peter could not 'fly' until he allowed his imagination to allow him into a magical world of all things mystical, 'Tiny Dancers' is a wonderful world of discovery, fields of twirling dancing flowers, holding hands, kissing, whirling whizzles, flying fairies and tiny dancers hiding in the greenery. They're all there in this field of what appears to adults as a simple painting of Wild Flowers. Adults can be so silly and miss so much.
'Tiny Dancers' was created over a one month period. The background is composed of literally dozens of translucent layers of acrylic and ink washes to build light, then hand brush work, again to bring in background, followed by thick buttery acrylic impasto.
What follows, the signature to most of my paintings that brings them together, is the line work. Paintings to me are a definite process, building up to a final point. It takes weeks to get a painting to the point of line work.
The line work I refer to is done with a small, palm-sized bottle filled with thick black paint and a thin needle-like dispenser end. Black paint on a painting at this point will ruin the painting if done wrong.
This is where a truly intuitive space needs to be created, alone. Just me and the painting, as this next step is what brings the painting together. Once I start, it's almost like a trance - it's like a signature - once I start, I don't stop until it's done and the entire process may take, perhaps, as in this painting, only 3-4 minutes. These few minutes is what I believe to be the lifeblood of the painting - what makes the individual elements come alive, to dance! It's an act of faith. I have to be in the 'right' place as one wrong move and the painting is ruined.
In this case, I'm overjoyed with the result. 'Tiny Dancers' is a celebration of life. Each and every time you view this painting, you will see (and feel) something different. This is my gift to you, my energy passed along to you. This is the beauty of original art that cannot be enjoyed in print - the spirit of the artist.
