I met Moon, my model, as she waited on our table at breakfast in Sanford Florida. That day was the day, in fact, that morning as she waited on us, I decided to quit my job as the Arts Administrator for The Seminole Cultural Arts Council. Later I called her and set up a time to meet and she modeled for me. I photographed her and she shared a story of how her son was in her country of Korea at what used to be her home but the land had been taken away from them. The morning we first met she was excited to speak to our table as we were discussing prayer and God and she glowed as she shared that she too was a Christian. As I worked on this piece I prayed and the verse came to mind for this painting The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
and 2 Corninthians 4:18 For we do not rejoice in those things that are seen, but in these things that are unseen. For things seen are time related, but those things that are unseen are eternal.
I pushed my artistic self imposed boundaries and took the portrait to another level with imaginary thoughts.
