From an artist's standpoint, naming a piece of art can be quite a challenge, especially if it is not necessarily inspired by anything and a pure abstract. When painting abstracts, I tend to listen to music and time becomes non-existent, and I often am surprised where the hours went. I suppose my mood has a part to play, and my personal preference of colour pallets and colour combinations come about. I named Nascent after the piece was completed and what struck me was the format and scale of the canvas as it happened to turn out. The panoramic ratio and sheer length of 190.5 made me think of the potential! Nascent…the definition…' only recently formed or started but likely to grow larger quickly' 'just coming into existence and beginning to display signs of future potential'. It made me think had the canvas no end this piece could go on and on. Infinity would also have been a good title.
