Gift of Understanding
- Digital painting on canvas
- Bryce Cobbs
Purchased for the City of Roanoke Public Art Collection from the 2020 Black Fatherhood exhibit at the Harrison Museum of African American Culture.
Born in Roanoke, Bryce Cobbs is an aspiring artist and creator. He took his first art class during his junior year in high school and immediately found a path to career and fulfillment. He then attended Virginia Commonwealth University to major in Communication Arts.
While focusing heavily on portraiture and anatomy, Bryce attempts to keep a common narrative with all of his work: celebrating the beauty and the life of being Black.
The meditation on the relationship of fathers to their children in this series might be seen at the level of an individual relationship, as an allegorical representation, and even as a broader hope for a community.
