On loan from the estate of David A. Ramey
The late David A. Ramey captured images of life in Roanoke, many from memory. In images such as this one, he focused on the vibrant Gainsboro neighborhood, much lost to urban renewal efforts of the 1960s. To see more of Mr. Ramey's work, visit the Gainsboro Library and the third floor of the Municipal Building's South wing, just below this floor.
Ramey’s writing captures also the spirit of a community of people who welcomed and supported each other.
