The piece entitled 'Dumas' is a colored pencil drawing done by artist David Ramey. This drawing is apart of an exhibition that features colorful drawings and stories from the artist's life in Roanoke City. Each piece in this exibition showcases memories that were a part of his everyday life including businesses, homes, and places of worship within the city he grew up in. 'Dumas' , along with the rest of the collection can be found in Municipal Building North.
The late David A. Ramey captured images of life in Roanoke, many from memory. In images such as this these, he focused on the vibrant Gainsboro neighborhood, much lost to urban renewal efforts of the 1960s.
Mr. Ramey’s work is noted for his attention to the small details and the great effort he put into his work. “If you expect to get anything out of it, you’ve got to put something into it,” wrote Mr. Ramey.
