- Becky Carr
Becky Carr moved to Roanoke in 2007, just about the same time the first Africans were leaving their refugee camps in Tanzania and Rwanda to resettle in Roanoke. Since then, Roanoke has welcomed many more refugees, including Afghans and Ukrainians. Roanoke Refugee Partnership, Commonwealth Catholic Charities Refugee Services, and Blue Ridge Literacy, to name a few, continue to help welcome our newcomers with language, food, clothing, and housing.
“As part of my Refugee Women and Children series,” says Becky Carr, Ukrainian Mother and Child was inspired by these women who left their homes in war-torn countries for a safer life. Their spirit, strength, and grace amaze me.”
