Pauline Wood has owned of Shades of Color in Downtown Roanoke for three decades or longer.

Artist Skye Hartwell says, “Pauline’s upbeat, colorful spirit matches the wide variety of beautiful and fun fabrics and accessories in her store. Her vendor booths at the Elmwood festivals are always a treat with the latest styles. She’s one of Roanoke’s little stars and deserves to be highlighted for the constant light she gives to our community!”

For this portrait, Skye experimented with a variety of styles and materials, settling on using mixed media with generous touches of gold leaf for a dynamic and energetic effect.
