“I’m studying architecture, facial planes, and the light in landscapes in order to combine them into my self-portrait,” says Roanoke resident Rosemary Ann StJacques. “I'm thinking about what Roanoke looked like as buildings appeared in a Salt marsh, fed by four springs that are covered now. I’m exploring how it has influenced trading in Market Square. I'm hearing the water running beneath the streets, painting two time periods at once, and feeling the life that runs through downtown Roanoke, the generations it's taken to make it the lively place it is today.”
A fashion designer and artist, StJacques attempts to confuse the lines between fashion and art. She graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 2007 and from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2011.
