The sculpture grouping entitled 'Freedom, Justice and Compassion' is a public art piece by artist and Virginia native David Breeden. Breeden is known for his sculptures and crafted this piece out of Nelson County soapstone. "Freedom, Justice and Compassion" can be found on the steps of the Roanoke City Courthouse located in Downtown Roanoke. It was a gift bestowed by Breeden to the city of Roanoke.
About the artist:
David Breedan was a native of Virginia and was a well-known sculptor. Some of his work has appeared at Roanoke College, Alumni Hall at the University of Virginia, Miami Beach City Hall, Pittsburg City/County Building, and other public spaces.
