2022 Nixon Leger 25 Years of Art from Haiti to the United States at the Atrium Gallery

Rhode Island State Council on the Arts presents "Nixon Leger - 25 Years of Art from Haiti to the United States " at the Atrium Gallery @ One Capitol Hill.

A Solo Exhibition featuring more than 25 years of captivating artwork created by Nixon Leger, is on display at the Atrium Gallery at One Capitol Hill. This wide body of artwork was created based on the physical and metaphysical world as viewed by Nixon.

“My artwork from the early years is a quest of identity and creativity. This work is based on the philosophy, spirituality, physical and metaphysical world. Since I first began studying art, I have continued to search for unique ways to show my ideas. Through my artwork, I took the “Plantain Tree” from the physical world which I transformed into a metaphysic representation of the human body. My Art is a world of Adventure that I continue to explore.” – Nixon Leger

Nixon Leger is an award-winning artist from Belle-Anse, Haiti. His work has been showcased in many art exhibits internationally. Nixon is a leader to the community; he spends quality time contributing with other organizations providing his expertise on fundraising activities. His presence in supporting the community was recognized and awarded twice by the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), as well as other related fundraising events for Liberia and Haiti. Nixon shows that his artwork is a representation of Haitian Art mixed with other life concepts, rich with various styles, philosophy, and spirituality, while connecting to others worldwide.

Atrium Gallery at One Capitol Hill
Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA) developed the Atrium Gallery to recognize talented artists from communities throughout the state. The Atrium Gallery hosts multidisciplinary exhibitions in partnership with diverse artists and cultural organizations. The gallery features a stunning tall glass ceiling with light that cascades into an open space surrounded by three walls of artwork. This has become a destination point for visitors and the many people who frequent the Administration offices at One Capitol Hill, while enriching the environment for hundreds of state workers in the building.

Solo Exhibitions Program
The Atrium Gallery hosts solo exhibitions each year displaying an array of mediums that includes but is not limited to paintings, photography, textiles, and installation. The public gallery features emerging and established artists who are interested in exploring and showcasing their creative vision through an exceptional body of work. Selected artists are provided an installation preparatory specialist, promotional brochure or postcard, opening gallery reception, as well as being included in RISCA’s website and newsletter.

The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts is a state agency supported by appropriations from the Rhode Island General Assembly and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. RISCA provides grants, technical assistance and staff support to arts organizations and artists, schools, community centers, social service organizations and local governments to bring the arts into the lives of Rhode Islanders.
