Rhode Island State Council on the Arts presents "Street Scenes Art Exhibit" at the Atrium Gallery @ One Capitol Hill. This exhibition includes Francisco Hernandez and Ian Mohon’s acrylic paintings of various street scenes throughout Providence, along with JB Hack’s fine art images of manhole covers from his Street Jewels series.
Participating Artists: Francisco Hernandez, Ian Mohon, JB Hack
Artist Bios:
Francisco Hernandez was born in the Dominican Republic. He studied under the Master Artist Federico Ruis Pou for many years. He came to the United States in the late 1980’s and has been devoted to his artwork for the past 38 years. Francisco has exhibited extensively all over Rhode Island, New England, and abroad. Francisco is a recent recipient of the RISCA Community Award.
Ian Mohon was born in Texas and spent a short time in the NAVY. Ian received his BFA and has worked in New England’s finest art galleries. He is a painter, photographer, and printmaker, with a new emphasis on painting portraiture both of architecture and people. His current series focuses on iconic buildings in Providence and the surrounding neighborhoods.
JB Hack’s interest in photography began years ago while taking photographs to illustrate toxicology lectures. While taking these photographs, he noticed most people’s obliviousness to the world around them- they were rushing to or from something- always looking ahead, but never looking around. His work consists of bringing focus on attention to overlooked items that we pass every day.
Atrium Gallery at One Capitol Hill
Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA) developed the Atrium Gallery to recognize talented artists from communities throughout the state. The Atrium Gallery hosts multidisciplinary exhibitions in partnership with diverse artists and cultural organizations. The gallery features a stunning tall glass ceiling with light that cascades into an open space surrounded by three walls of artwork. This has become a destination point for visitors and the many people who frequent the Administration offices at One Capitol Hill, while enriching the environment for hundreds of state workers in the building.
The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts is a state agency supported by appropriations from the Rhode Island General Assembly and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. RISCA provides grants, technical assistance and staff support to arts organizations and artists, schools, community centers, social service organizations and local governments to bring the arts into the lives of Rhode Islanders.
