Commissioned by Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, for the AG’s Office in Providence, The Size of Rhode Island features outdoor and indoor sculptures. Visitors initially approach seven entryway columns. Glass maps 400 miles of the Ocean State’s Atlantic coastline. In the lobby, visitors are greeted by two panels. Carved wood depicts three types of breaking waves, to parallel each individual’s dive into the waves of justice. Per Nobel Prize poet and Irishman Seamus Heaney, “The longed-for tidal wave / Of justice can rise up / And hope and history rhyme.” My series nods to the past and looks to the future.
