The had is a basketry woven conical shape covered in pangolin scales with a carved horn and ivory figure tied to the top. There is a braided fiber chin strap.
There are 6 levels of Bwami society and each level has its own symbols. Hats designed by the owners indicate one of the higher levels as do the small ivory figures.
