Snake Knot I Limited Edition of 8
This artwork depicts a kind of "Endless Knot". The traditional endless knot is a common symbol across Asia and is said to symbolise the eternal continuum of mind and the endless cycle of suffering or birth, death and rebirth within Tibetan Buddhism.
In the traditional knot, the inter-twining of wisdom and compassion and the interplay and interaction of the opposing forces in the dualistic world of manifestation, leading to their union, and ultimately to harmony in the universe.
This knot while still symbolising those aspects, proposes that this harmony, rather than balanced and passive, is constantly shifting and active. The knot has a restless energy and seems to come alive with flickering patterns and twists.
Like a snake, this harmony is beautiful but also dangerous, and the design suggests that perhaps harmony is a goal that changes from moment to moment, rather than being eternally static. Nevertheless, across the field of the knot, the restless energy runs within the system, leaving it overall in balance.
