Sierpinski's Amphibia Limited Edition of 8
Lizards and Tortoises circle each other in clockwise and anticlockwise directions. As they circle, they form a fractal motif, with triangles developing at every scale.
Using a complex plane-filling curve as a base, which developed from an exploration of Taylor’s Einstein tile, the pattern formed a version of Sierpinski’s gasket, however, instead of filled and void regions, it has darker and lighter triangles. The effect is created by both tiles having darker and lighter sides, along a spine, and also by the lizard having an overall darker tone that the tortoise. As the substitution creates variations in the distribution of the tiles, the different tones allow the Sierpinski pattern to be clearly seen. The actual substitution creates a fractal with many branching extensions, this neat hexagon is cropped from the centre of a much larger fractal. As the substitutions continue, larger and larger triangles appear.
