Mudskipping I Limited Edition of 8
In August 2015, the discovery of a new pentagonal tiling made global news. I found this very exciting, and decided to test out if I could make a tessellation on it, treating it as a kind of speed challenge. I developed this tessellation within a few days, and
completed the coloured version within the month. The tile had an interesting kind of rippling structure, this reminded me of ripples in the mangroves, and I have always had a soft spot for the Goby family of fish, with their comically sad faces and bulging
eyes, small limbs and often spectacular dorsal fins and coloring, and their aggressive display rituals. I wish that they had been the original creatures to emerge from the sea, imagine what bizarre forms terrestrial life may have evolved to based on this template!
While it is not actually a complex tiling, it is very new. 12 tiles form the basic composite tile, which is in the form of the ripple, which then is simply repeated by simple translation left and right.
