This hibiscus is opening up in the sunshine, awakening after being dormant in the winter. Grief and trauma can cause a person to retreat from interests and society like a bear in hibernation. Eventually, the rest and retreat give space for the repairs of the heart during the dark winter leading to the growth of the transformative power of awakening. Thus, similar to the flower, the person emerges to everyday life renewed with new hope.
The photo reference is one I took on a recent family trip to Hawaii.
