Street Light is one of those paintings that you're just not sure how it's going to go when you start. This piece was painted as a demo for painting nightscapes in pastel. With toned Uart paper, I gently coaxed things into the light. The reference photo really did not have much information in it and at first glance looked yellow and black. However, the more I looked, the more I could see - green, purple, gold. The reference was taken on an early morning pre-dawn walk; such a wonderful time to be outside. Everything is still and quiet with an owl or two hooting. I highly recommend walking before dawn and I feel like this piece shows the beauty of the normal everyday scene cloaked in darkness.
