TRANSCENDENCE, RECORDER, RECEIVER, DREAMER

Renee Brown is a multidisciplinary artist that is driven by direction given to her in her dream life. Over the last two decades Renee’s art praxis has been informed by her investigation into metaphoric dream analysis methodology. She delves into the metaphoric meaning of dream elements through research meditation and revelation. Currently she responds to her nocturnal life through dream journals, spontaneous drawings, abstract paintings, sculpture and video installation. A commitment to ritual, reception and direction from her personal dreamlife drives her practice.

Renee is a widely respected artist and educator. Trained at State University College at Buffalo, graduating cum laude from Rochester institute of technology, a recipient of a Schomberg fellowship with a MAH from University of Buffalo with studies in Sienna, Italy. She has been widely exhibited near her home in Buffalo, NY and elsewhere, including the Castle Estense in Ferrara, Italy. Renee has created and published the book Dreamscapes, with Tim Hill, renowned publisher of Ansel Adams photography. In this book which catalogues her dream life from 2010 to 2014, she gives an aesthetic and narrative response to her dreams and visions. “Renee’s work demonstrates extraordinary diversity, highly skilled execution, and breathtaking depth of feeling.”, quotes Tim Hill, Director of Artbook Press, former head of NYGS Books. Brown leads the viewer to the Divine Dance, waking up to the music of wisdom and a mystical Presence. It is a river, a Holy River that runs through her art…an awe-filled complexity reviled at center with her powerful belief in the unifying certainty of the Creators presence, quotes Anthony Bannon, Executive Director, Burchfield Penny Art Center.
