The hills of San Francisco are pretty romantic, no matter how you look at them. The stars sparkle in the night sky, and the lights of the city twinkle below.
So much energy, so much beauty! Mesmerized, I stood at the window of my rooftop sunroom, watching the stars, the mountains, and all the activity in the night sky. The airport is to the south of the city, and I would watch the airplanes - traveling to distant lands - climb into the sky between the hills.
My simplification of the view led to this almost-abstract painting, presented in just two bold colors, giving a sense of quiet and calmness.
This large painting, measuring 5 feet wide, would make an impressive statement in your home. It is created on charmeuse silk and colored with fiber-reactive dyes. A clear resist creates the white outline of the San Francisco hills, while the gold and silver points of light are made with metallic resist.
