Message100X70 cm, Monoprint & Collage. This work, part of the Infinite Infinities Series of work created in the Fall of 2022. The work born out of the “Through the looking glass series” a grid of 25X25 encaustic works that began to look at the grid as a mental map tracing the layers of history in my work, the influences and ideas that are pulled from the past into the present. We see the image of Sisyphus for the first time. Sisyphus, from Greek mythology was condemned by the gods to push a bolder up a hill for all eternity. This struggle, feeling of accomplishment only to be followed by a new challenge. This myth and this image for me speaks to man/womans condition, to our desire for the happily ever after that never arrives. As a mother, this feels particularly accurate. The work is never done, and as soon as you feel you have arrived, you begin again. The works themselves are layers upon layers, a process that could go on, endlessly.
